Collection Data Terms
Effective Date: September 27, 2026 | Last Updated: September 27, 2026
These terms set out how you may use the askFinz collections: the named bodies of records listed at askfinz.com/collections, such as patents, standards, legislation, clinical studies, filings and news, and the records and passages drawn from them that askFinz Search, the askFinz workspaces and the askFinz API return. They sit alongside our Consumer Terms, Commercial Terms and Acceptable Use Policy, which continue to govern your account.
1. What is ours, and what is not
The documents in a collection belong to the organisations that publish them, and remain subject to those publishers' own terms and to the law that protects them. Nothing in these terms grants you a right to a third party's material that you would not otherwise have.
What askFinz contributes is the collection itself: the selection of sources, the way records are read, classified and filed by what they are, the fields drawn out of them, the passages they are divided into, and the index that finds them. That work represents a substantial investment, and the collections may be protected as databases under European Union and Dutch law, including the Dutch Databases Act (Databankenwet).
2. What you may do
Without asking us first, and without charge beyond the plan you are on, you may:
- Search the collections and read the records and passages they return.
- Quote individual records and passages in your own work, reports, research and products, in proportion to your purpose.
- Use search results through the askFinz API or an askFinz plan, within that plan's limits.
- Link to any collection page or record.
3. What needs a written agreement with us
The following are not permitted unless we have agreed to them in writing:
- Extracting or re-using all, or a substantial part, of any collection, whether at once or through repeated and systematic requests.
- Bulk downloading, scraping, mirroring or caching a collection outside the normal use of askFinz Search and the API.
- Building, feeding or improving a competing index, search service or dataset from the collections.
- Selling, sublicensing or redistributing records or passages as a dataset in their own right.
- Using the collections as training data for machine-learning models, other than through a licence we offer for that purpose.
We do not currently offer the collections as a bulk feed or download. If you need something the list above rules out, write to us: we would rather hear what you need than have you guess.
4. Citing what you use
Each record and passage keeps a link to the page it was read from. When you rely on one, cite that original source; where you can, also note that it was found through askFinz, for example "via askFinz" with a link to askfinz.com.
5. Publishers and removal
If you publish material that appears in a collection and want it corrected or removed, email legal@askfinz.ai with the address of the page concerned. We will act on a valid request without undue delay.
6. Accuracy
The collections are provided as they are, as described in our Disclaimer. Records are read from their sources automatically and may be incomplete, out of date or wrongly classified. Check the original source before relying on a record for any decision.
7. Changes, and the law that applies
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and use of the collections after a change means the updated terms apply. These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands.
